my late grandmother taught me how to can fruit, and left me her canning pot, jar caddy, and spiced peaches recipe. she died 10 years ago, but every summer and fall, I pull out her old enamel pot, metal caddy, and red apron. all of a sudden, she's in the kitchen with me again

Every time I cook my kids ask me “mom is this something grandma James or Grammy taught you?” (One being my grandma and my mom) it makes me smile and we talk about how my grandma taught me this or taught my mom (their Grammy) who taught me. And they talk about my grandma like they knew her now 🥰 she’s alive in their memory because she taught me

we've lost a LOT of knitting/crochet skill because it wasn't passed down. Look at medieval knitting, then at what we do today majorly. Completely different skill level. Crochet happened even faster, people used to do amazingly complex crochet with very lightweight yarn, and now that skill is almost extinct

I tell everyone I know that if they want to learn how to sewing, baking, gardening, canning, change oil, a tire, making soap from scratch, etc. I grew up with my grandparents and they taught me so much. No one except my husband seems interested. I would love it if a neighbor or anyone for that matter would ask me to teach them.
