As an Itsekiri person, I totally understand this point of view and it’s valid. However, let’s reason together…let’s separate Warri as a kingdom from Warri as a brand. Example- Oba of Lagos does not mean king Akiolu rules over Ikorodu, Badagry, epe and all other places associated with Lagos because Lagos is a brand. Oba of Lagos rules over just tiny portion of Lagos which is Lagos island- Iga Idugaran side. Ikorodu, epe, Barbary all have their kings, but they are all associated with the Lagos brand. Even Mowe and ibafo are not Lagos but if you stay in those places, u can validly say u stay in Lagos, because of proximity. Ikorodu have their own king- Ayangburen, all those other places in Lagos- Elegushi have Oba Elegushi, Ogijo, Yaba, Ogudu and virtually most of all other places have their own kings and kingdoms, but they all associate with the brand Lagos because of development and influence the name Lagos comes with. If Oba of Lagos gives an order, it is only carried out in Lagos island, not the whole of Lagos…but the whole of Lagos is bearing Lagos right?If we continue like this, the new Delta state that is coming if Anioma state leaves cannot have its capital in Warri because of this issue. This is the same reason Delta state capital is in Asaba instead of Warri. Let’s be guided pls. Don’t cut off you head just because u have headache o. Yes let some things be corrected from the Itsekiri side. Both ethnic leaders can sit down and have a conversation and agreement about these things. The Urhobos and Itsekiris are the major stakeholders holders in warri and should not let tribalism win. The Olu of Warri knows his territories and will stick to it, just as Oba of Lagos knows his tiny territory compared to the larger Lagos name brand. Let’s not chase investors away, let’s not shoot ourselves in the foot. Entertainers can use Warri name only as a brand, the kingdom is different pls.

The Itsekiri monarch is the problem in this case because he's trying to use the name Warri to overlord the Urhobo kingdom since his title carries the name Warri. In contrast, his kingdom in reality is just 10% of what makes up Warri City today. Let everyone know their boundaries and respect one another's kingdom.

100% supported as an Ijaw man. In my early days growing up in Burutu in the 1980s, there were Itsekiri areas and Itsekiri festivals. At the time, you could easily have assumed they were indigenous because of how established and widespread they had become. The crisis that followed showed just how sensitive questions of land, identity, history and ownership can become. For the sake of the next generation, we need to be clear about the history and boundaries of our communities. Communities should preserve their traditional names, document their history and ensure that our children understand what rightfully belongs to their community and what belongs to their neighbours. This is not about hatred or hostility towards anyone. It is about honesty, identity and respecting boundaries. An honest person does not claim what belongs to his neighbour; if something belongs to another person or community, he should acknowledge the rightful owner. When people repeatedly feel that their land, identity or history is being claimed by others, resentment grows, trust disappears and eventually it can contribute to conflict. We have seen the consequences of this before, and we should not allow the next generation to inherit the same problems. We can live as neighbours, respect one another’s cultures and maintain peaceful relationships while still being truthful about our history and community boundaries. For me, the answer is not ethnic exclusion. It is clarity, documentation, respect for customary ownership, and honesty about who belongs where and what belongs to whom.🥰🥰🥰🥰
