@nbcnews: After losing her home to wildfires in Spokane, Washington, a homeowner reflects on the challenge of trying to forgive the man who allegedly started the fires on purpose, and the significance of the statue of Mary that went untouched from the blaze. A lot of these comments are so heartless and uncalled for… I’m friends with this woman’s daughter shown in the video. Yes, of course the statue survived because it’s stone, that’s not the point!!! Their entire neighborhood was decimated and this is one of the few things that is still standing in the entire neighborhood. This statue has helped people grieve through the symbolism that their faith will remain strong through this horrible tragedy. You don’t have to agree or be a believer, but it doesn’t mean you should make negative comments about one of the few things these people have left to help them through this tragedy💔

Forgiveness is powerful, but accountability still matters. Losing a home is devastating especially when someone is accused of starting the fire intentionally.

Forgiving doesn’t mean trusting that person again. I forgive former friends but cut ties. Just because you forgive, doesn’t mean you pretend it never happened and go back to normal.
