@sciencefunn: Newton was obsessed with alchemy. Alongside inventing calculus and working out the laws of motion and gravity, he spent years trying to understand secret alchemical recipes—including the legendary Philosopher’s Stone, which supposedly could transform ordinary metals into gold. He wrote well over a million words on alchemy, much of it in private notebooks. Alchemy was controversial enough that Newton generally kept this work quiet. And there’s an even stranger Newton story: while studying vision, he once stuck a blunt needle-like instrument between his eyeball and the socket and pressed on his eye to see what kinds of colors and patterns would appear. Brilliant scientist. Absolutely terrifying research assistant to himself. 😄 We share wholesome science content. Feel free to join us for more. #physics #newton
