@theventure: This guy begged for a job on Wall Street, then built a $500M empire! In 1991, Bill Perkins shows up at New York's commodities exchange and waits downstairs three days straight until they let him in. He starts as a clerk, sneaking sandwiches to traders by day and driving a limo at night to pay his rent. He climbs to trader, and in 2002 joins John Arnold's hedge fund, Centaurus. In 2006, a rival fund called Amaranth bets billions on rising gas prices. Centaurus bets against them. Amaranth loses $6 billion, and Perkins goes on to make $1 billion in profits for the firm. Then in 2012 his boss retires and shuts everything down. Perkins starts his own fund, Skylar, named after his daughter Skye, and it nearly ruins him. The gas market dies, rival funds go out of business, and the Wall Street Journal calls him the last cowboy standing. But Perkins sees it differently: if everyone else quits, whoever stays collects all the profits. ✓ Starts buying satellite photos to track the market before anyone else ✓ Hires pilots for flyovers and tracks every drilling crew in America ✓ Gets ready as Russia cuts gas to Europe in 2022 and prices explode ✓ Gains 208% in a single year Waits three days for a shot → sneaks sandwiches by day, drives a limo by night → makes the firm $1B → his own fund nearly ruins him → everyone else quits → he stays and out-tracks them all → 208% in a year → over $500M. Sometimes the biggest edge is simply being the last one still standing when everyone else walks away. #Business #Skylar #Trading #Success #Entrepreneur
