let's say you asked your mom for $20 to buy a shirt. she says she'll buy you the $20 shirt, but you have to pay her back by the first day of next month. eventually, next month comes around and you give her the $20 that you owed from the previous month. however, let's say you didn't have the money to pay your mom back, and she says that now the payment will go up by 25 cents each month you forget to pay her back. if you neglect to pay her back for 3 months, that $20 shirt now becomes $20.75 because of the added fee your mom gave you. this is essentially how people fall into credit card debt. i hope the fake scenario helped you understand it a little better!! i promise having a credit card is not that scary🥰

I'm a banker! so basically credit card is lent money. you can spend to a certain amount, and then you pay it back and the company basically tells the Credit Bureau that you used money and paid it back. the truck to not going into debt is to make sure you know how much money you can borrow safely per month that way you can pay the entire balance off in the month. that way you won't get any late fees or interest (which makes your balance go higher).

you don't need a credit card to build credit! I was told I needed one if I ever wanted to buy a house, I didn't get one and my credit score is excellent purely from being on the electoral roll and paying monthly for Spotify premium - I have no other direct debits, loans, anything on finance

Yall are overcomplicating it. Use your credit card for all regular purchases (groceries, Amazon, gas, restaurants, etc) and pay it off at the end of every week. As long as you don’t spend more then you have in your debit account you’ll be fine

My first credit card all I did was put a small bill on it (like prime, Netflix) and I made sure to pay it on time every month. This shows you are reliable and will build your credit without having to worry about it :)))
