@lifewithwendylee: Something shifted for me this summer. I stopped assuming I knew what the people I love were experiencing simply because I knew them. That realization has been especially powerful with my grandkids. They're becoming their own people now. Forming their own opinions, questioning things, figuring out what they believe and experiencing life through a lens that belongs entirely to them. And I've started to recognize how easy it is to look at someone we love through the lens of our own life. We see their choices through our mistakes. Their relationships through our heartbreaks. Their risks through our fears. Their possibilities through the limits we've learned along the way. We think we're seeing them. Sometimes we're seeing our own history reflected back at us. That realization has changed the way I've been showing up. I'm learning to listen a little longer before offering the answer. To ask, “What do you think?” instead of immediately telling them what I think. To stay curious about how they see something, even when their perspective is completely different from mine. I'm still here to guide them. Protect them. Set boundaries when they're needed. That part hasn't disappeared. But I don't need to be the author of their experience. And something beautiful has happened as I've stepped back enough to let them own it. They've stepped closer. The conversations have gotten deeper. The trust has grown stronger. And they've shown me parts of themselves I might never have seen if I'd been too busy telling them who I thought they were supposed to be. It makes me wonder how often we do this in all of our relationships. How well can we truly know someone if we only allow them to exist inside our perception of who they are? What might we discover about the people we've known for years if we became curious about who they are now? One of the greatest gifts we can give another person is enough space to surprise us. I'm incredibly grateful for what these two are teaching me about that. Turns out, I'm not the only one growing up around here. ❤️ Until next time, keep exploring with courageous curiosity. #CourageousCuriosity #StayCurious #PerspectiveMatters #GrowingTogether #LifeThroughMyLens
