Sadly the denman brush has even more tension than the boar bristle volume and define versions. I would suggest trying the slick dense bounce curl brush or the curl defining unbrush🌸

I love that you wanted to get rid of the tension by using a different brush, but since the tension is only on your crown, the most important part of only be more damaged and become more stringy over overtime(I speak from experience).
