@tavelarocque: day 58 of the @higherupwellness speak your mind challenge an army of 150,000 marched on his city. he had a few hundred men. so he threw the gates wide open and started playing music. the story comes from one of china’s great legends. zhuge liang, the most feared strategist of his age, was caught in a nearly empty city with a massive enemy army closing in and no way to win a fight. so he did the last thing anyone would expect. he had the gates flung open, sent men out to calmly sweep the streets, and sat on the wall in plain sight, playing an instrument, completely at peace. and the enemy general stopped cold. he knew zhuge liang was cautious, brilliant, never reckless. so open gates and a man playing music could only mean one thing: a trap. something that looked this suicidal had to be bait. and he turned his entire army around and retreated, from a city he could have taken in an hour. historians say it probably never happened. but it survived for centuries because it’s true about people. panic looks like panic. total calm in the face of danger looks like you know something they don’t. when you’re cornered, sometimes the strongest move isn’t force. it’s being so calm they can’t believe you don’t have a plan. #philosophy #History #stoicism #mindset
