English was actually pretty strict about its roads until city planners saw an opportunity to boost sales and messed up its whole system! In a nutshell shell: a road connects point A to point B. If it has houses and shops either side, then it’s a street. If it’s got nowhere to walk, and you can’t fit two cars down there together, it’s a lane. If it’s lined with trees and lead somewhere fancy, it’s an avenue. If it’s got more than one lane, and a medium down the middle, it’s a boulevard. And if it’s a dead end, it’s a cul-de-sac, a.k.a. a close (because English finally figured out exactly what that meant!) So check your road map!
