His argument is giving the same vibe as people with aphantasia telling people that can visualize the apple that they’re lying and just claiming that to feel special/superior. Like, no my dude, I can picture the apple in three dimensions in my mind with all its imperfections and rotate it and everything…then still get told I’m lying -_-

Him saying that "I think this is why you all get manipulated so easily" is what really crossed my line. I don't mind his original point but I DO mind how he's doubling down on it. Plus "most popular fiction isn't art" is a crazy thing to say.

I followed him for a long time because I think he has the capacity for really interesting and nuanced thought, but I think he also has a hard time separating his ego from reality on occasion and this is one of those times. the issue isnt that he doesnt feel emotionally moved by fiction, the issue is that he apparently thinks that people who DO experience real emotions from it "can't distinguish fiction from reality"

when I cry when watching an emotional movie - that's a real emotion! I can't make myself cry at will. it's not a pantomime. I fully know it's not real, but I'm emotionally reacting to it as if it was.

The thing is that sociopathy in and of itself isn’t a problem - just like other mental health issues, like depression. It’s only an issue if you don’t address it. I’ve know a few diagnosed sociopaths who are great people because they recognize the differences between their thought processes and others.

As a fellow autistic I get accidentally assuming something you experience is the way everyone experiences things and then being absolutely baffled when you’re told otherwise to the point of incredulity. But I don’t then turn around and say “you’re wrong” to everyone who says “that’s just you Sara” I accept that I have a different experience and sometimes decide that everyone else is the weird one
