Thank you for the good summary. I would add to our friends outside the US: the United States is huge and has very big regional differences. In the region where I live, I do not know anyone who voted for Donald Trump. My state’s entire congressional delegation (all of our federal representatives) are members of the opposition Democratic Party. My state also has top education and healthcare, gun safety laws and yes, we have public transport. But there are other states that are controlled by Trump‘s party and are sadly very backward with poor public education. And the votes of those people count just the same as the people of my state. That’s the system we have. Eliminating the electoral college would increase the fairness, and I hope it will happen in my lifetime.

Incorrect Alberta did not vote to succed yet, there were two petitions one with 200+k signature is favor of secession and 400k+ against; so big difference as not vote yet and the 700k quoted are the sum of the two petitions

So many other countries conveniently forget their own bad history because some of it was so long ago. Without naming names, don't get too smug when your country raped, pillaged, and enslaved a large portion of the world or wiped out all the natural resources from entire indigenous populations. No one is completely blameless when looking back at history. There have always been groups that pushed back in every society. Unfortunately their voices aren't always heard. So many of us our fighting this regime. Half our country never voted for the orange idiot even once.
