Life was FAR from perfect, but people had jobs, those jobs paid well relative to the cost of living, and we weren’t banned from the USA. Our airline flew to Europe. Western consumer goods were available and abundant. The Iranians in Beverly Hills weren’t going onto the streets demanding bombs.
