it might be due to internalised misogyny as well. humanities is a women dominated field and stem is the opposite. so the idea that stem is more superior or “useful” is to look down on a field that is dominated by women, that is seen as “useless”

i never understood the “all stem majors can do humanities but humanities majors can’t do stem” argument because from personal experience it honestly varies by individual 😭i know so many stem majors who can’t spell for shit to the point where their writing is genuinely painful to read AND i know humanities majors who excelled in the calc and physics courses at my school
