Malls should be turned into affordable housing for real

All the people going on about “where were all of you before this” seem to forget that people can barely afford rent, groceries, and gas for themselves and their families, let alone go to the mall and spend their money on (mostly) frivolities most can get much cheaper online. When you can get something cheaper online, it’s harder to be able to justify spending your very limited income supporting the local businesses that have to hike up prices to get by. These people came for the sake of the memories and the history of a place that society can no longer financially support because of late stage capitalism.

All the comments saying that people should have done this from the start, people have, there have been people constantly at the mall for the last few years, just because you don't go there or you don't see people going there doesn't mean it didn't happen. It became a more niche, community hub. The petition to save it was doing well with 11,000+ signatures, that's 11,000 people who also want the mall to stay. Be kind folks, we are mourning a community space.

Seeing the mall packed with so many people today was bittersweet. Wish they had put the Christmas tree up one last time. I am going to miss Lloyd Center so much.

This is what malls should become 🥺 community spaces but private equity purposely preys on the downfall of these places in order to fill their pockets for short term gain

Seeing this at 7:00pm on 8/8/26. Goodbye to a part of my childhood. I loved Christmas time at Lloyd Center with Santa's Village. It was spectacular
