@nourishingapothecary: Sleep disruption is incredibly common through perimenopause and menopause and for some women, it can feel like their entire ability to sleep has changed almost overnight. Hormonal fluctuations can influence temperature regulation, mood, stress response and sleep. Add in night sweats, hot flushes or waking during the night, and suddenly getting a full night’s sleep can become incredibly difficult. In this video I talk about magnesium as one tool we can consider. But magnesium isn’t the whole answer and if your sleep has significantly changed during perimenopause, I don’t want you assuming you simply need a stronger sleep supplement. We need to look at the bigger picture. Is it hormonal? Are hot flushes waking you? Is stress or anxiety contributing? Are there nutrient deficiencies? What does your thyroid look like? Are there other metabolic or health factors affecting your sleep? This is exactly the kind of investigation Toni, our Women’s Hormones, Perimenopause & Metabolic Health Naturopath, does with women in clinic. If you’re struggling with sleep, hot flushes, mood changes, weight changes, irregular bleeding or other symptoms through perimenopause or menopause, Toni can help investigate what may be driving them and create an individualised treatment plan.
