@darlaranae: In a patriarchy in which everyone is being asked to perform roles, both femininity and masculinity are bastardized and misunderstood. Most people, perceiving themselves of masculine and feminine are in authentic, and are attempting to appeal to external and societal expectations of how those things have been defined. Women are asked to be feminine in a patriarchy because it is perceived as the opposite of masculine- which is assumed to be hard. The same softness -that women are asked to embody- is disregarded as a irrational… needing direction, childish. Requesting anyone else in the world to embody characteristics that make one feel more comfortable, could not be more in authentic.
