I agree with your point. I think part of it is most politicians being very old and media illiterate has made it very jarring for people to have a younger mayor with a team actively searching social media for city issues to solve and making as many internet and public apearances as he does. all in all he seems to be doing a great job, I love that, respect him keeping his word so far, I just never have and never will trust a politician or celebrity, nor have the desire to put either on a pedestal.

I absolutely agree with you, but Mamdani def plays into it, like he sold literal “Hot Girls for Zohran” shirts. I’m not even mad, it’s mild compared to what conservatives are doing to win, and they’re winning. But the celebrification feels inevitable, esp in the age of tr*mp and social media. and it’s been trending that way for awhile.

To add onto your point, the reason people on the left idolize Mamdani like the people on right idolize Trump is because of populism. They both portray themselves as the answer, both offer solutions, but because these people idolized them, they become celebrities who can say what they want with no solutions actually happening. Populism only wins campaigns, it can’t run a country or run a city
