Downdetector maps show reports spanning multiple regions, with notable concentrations along the Northeast corridor, including the NYC, Washington D.C., Boston, and Baltimore region. At this point, there is no confirmed evidence these outages are the result of a cyberattack. However, this should serve as a serious precautionary reminder. In the event of a major attack against the United States by a nation such as China or Russia, communications, cellular networks, internet services, and electrical grid infrastructure would be among the critical systems vulnerable to disruption. An adversary would seek to impair our ability to communicate and respond. We have repeatedly warned of a coming attack targeting the Northeast Coast, specifically the corridor surrounding New York City, Washington D.C., Boston, and Baltimore. Again, I am NOT claiming these current outages are that attack. I am saying PAY ATTENTION. Have backup communication plans. Keep devices charged. Maintain emergency supplies. Know how you will communicate with your family if cellular and internet services suddenly become unavailable.
