@lolitainstagram: Wildlife filmmaking has one sacred rule, never interfere, and a BBC crew in Antarctica looked at fifty freezing penguins and decided some rules deserve to be broken. The Dynasties penguin rescue (2018) is one of the most debated and beloved moments in nature documentary history, the emperor penguin episode of David Attenborough's BBC series capturing the day a film crew chose compassion over protocol. The mood is the observer's oath cracking under the weight of conscience. At Atka Bay, where director Will Lawson, cinematographer Lindsay McCrae, and camera assistant Stefan Christmann endured 337 days of temperatures plunging toward minus sixty, a blizzard drove a group of mothers and chicks into a steep icy gully, cut off from the colony, some chicks already lost to the cold, and the crew filmed through heartbreak as the survivors slid back down the slick walls attempt after attempt. Two agonizing days later came the decision that made history: intervening passively, never touching a single bird, they dug a shallow stepped ramp into the ice and simply walked away, leaving the choice to the penguins, and the footage of the colony waddling up those hand-carved stairs to safety became one of television's most tearful triumphs. Attenborough noted on air how rare such intervention is, and executive producer Mike Gunton later revealed the legend himself said he would have done exactly the same. This is documentary storytelling confronting its own ethics, and answering with a shovel. What makes it a must-see is the debate it settled. Objectivity matters, but when saving lives costs nothing and harms nothing, humanity is allowed to pick up the spade. Save this post for your faith-in-humanity collection, and share it with the friend who would have started digging before the meeting even ended.

It’s a dumb “rule” anyway. We as humans are a part of nature! Help when you can always

Good on them for helping. We've altered their climate, destroyed their homes, destroyed their food sources, destroyed what living options they have, F'd up all their natural social and mating behaviors as a result of the previous, and then we want to just leave them to it? Yeah no. It's our job to restore balance. We can't just walk into a place, have explosive sh-- and destroy everything, use all the tp, and then walk out like it's not our problem. That's exactly what we've done so far. I really hope the next century fixes what the last one destroyed.

Interfere but interfere safely and in a way that will not be a detriment to the animal. IE please do not carry baby turtles over the sand to the sea, they need to make that crawl.

Considering we've "helped" destroy habitats and species, this rule needs to be voided.
