Rooted in the traditions of Wassoulou music but driven by Oumou's fearless songwriting and unmistakable voice, the album became a sensation upon its release in 1991, across West Africa and beyond. The record tackled themes of women's rights, marriage and social justice. World Circuit's Nick Gold first encountered Moussolou through a cassette given to him by Ali Farka Touré in Bamako. Captivated by what he heard, Gold was determined to release the album internationally, beginning a long and fruitful relationship with Oumou Sangaré. It's a record that has lost none of its power over three decades on, and one that remains a cornerstone of both Oumou's extraordinary career and the World Circuit story.
