@saif.alhuss: There was a thirst in Karbala that water alone could never quench. Zaynab (as), the granddaughter of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, stood beneath the burning sun while the tents around her cried for water. She heard the children call, “Al-Atash… thirst,” while the Euphrates flowed nearby – close enough to see, yet forbidden to the family of the Messenger of Allah. But Zaynab’s thirst was not only the dryness in her throat. She thirsted as she watched her brother Hussain (as) walk toward the battlefield, knowing he would not return. She thirsted as Abbas (as), the hope of the children, left with an empty waterskin and came back without his arms. She thirsted as Ali al-Akbar (as) went to battle resembling the Prophet in his face, his voice, and his character. She thirsted while the cries of the children grew weaker and the bodies of those she loved covered the sands of Karbala. And even after water was finally placed before the captives, Zaynab’s thirst did not end. How could she drink after Hussain (as) had been killed thirsty? How could water soothe a heart that had watched an entire family taken from it? From Karbala to Kufa, and from Kufa to Shaam, she carried a thirst deeper than the body – the thirst of a sister longing for her brother, of a guardian trying to comfort orphaned children, and of a broken heart refusing to let the truth be buried. We understand, in our own small way, what it means to carry a thirst that nothing in this world can satisfy. The thirst for someone who is gone. The thirst for one more conversation, one more embrace, one more chance to say goodbye. Sometimes we drink, eat, sleep, smile, and continue living – yet something inside us remains painfully empty. That is what makes Zaynab (as) feel so close to every wounded heart. She teaches us that strength does not mean you do not ache. Strength is to ache beyond words and still protect others. To lose almost everything and still stand before oppression. To carry grief in your chest and still speak with courage. To be thirsty, exhausted, and shattered – and still become the voice of Hussain (as). Oh Zaynab, how did you endure the burning sands while the children begged you for water? How did you walk away from Karbala while your heart remained beside the body of your brother? Peace be upon the heart that remained thirsty long after Karbala. Peace be upon Zaynab – the woman whose tears carried the tragedy, whose patience protected the message, and whose voice ensured that Hussain (as) would never be forgotten. #islam #History #poetry
