13 years ago today, my dad died of a brain tumour at 5am on the morning of my first GCSE exam❤️‍🩹🕊️ Every year after I would sit exams at sixth form and then university, before I handed in my dissertation on 13th May 2018. 13 years after his death on the 13th May, the author copies of my first book arrived so let’s unbox my first book🥹 It feels very full circle that today would be the day that my book arrives, after so many of my career and education milestones have happened on the anniversary. This book is really a tribute to my 16-year-old self who managed to get herself to that exam and felt as though she’d never be happy again as she felt the carefree, joyful girl she was died with her dad. I wish I could go back and squeeze her and tell her everything will be alright - you will find yourself again, you will feel joy and make best friends (like the kind in Jacqueline Wilson novels) and your weird wonderful interests aren’t embarrassing but exactly what you should lean into more 💖 This book is for everyone who feels as though they lost part of themselves when growing up and is looking to reconnect (or fully become) the girl they were or the one they were never allowed to be ♥️ #griefandloss #debutauthor #authorsontiktok #parentloss #firstbook
