LOL…my mom is the master of getting her shit together for that 10 minutes and making herself look totally competent. I don’t feel dismissed by the doctor it’s just that my mom makes it look like she’s fine and is not declining cognitively.

🎯💯 My mom called me "I'm on the side of the road by this & that" I called 911 and rushed there. She was transported and the Dr. said she was dehydrated and was having an anxiety attack. I disagree. I explained certain things (Because I know my mom) he dismissed me. I got upset and demaded another dr. while we were in the ER. I explained myself again and asked if a head MRI (my mom had said her head hurts out of the sudden) MRI was done to shut me up and she was bleeding. She was transported to another hospital. WE KNOW THEM

I had the opposite problem, both my parents were terminally ill and not always of sound mind, and every time the dr’s or nurses would try to talk to me or I spoke to them, my parents would tell me to be quiet and not talk while the grownups were talking…I was 49/50 and much older than every one of those drs and couldn’t get anything sorted because my parents treated me like I was 12 🤦♀️they both died last year after 4 years of illness.

I am glad that i have never experienced this. My moms Dr always looks to me and says how is she doing? They know i handle everything for her so they trust me more than her.

YES!!!! I swear I was not pushy, I was not THAT family member who refused to listen to her Doctors and Nurses, BUT nonetheless dismissed so many times! I handled the medications, the appointments and knew her medical history and baseline backwards and forwards, present every day for hospitalizations but still dismissed so many times.

I begged for help with my mom and instead of getting help it was reported to APS !! Definitely won’t ask for help again.

I am SO thankful that my mom’s family doctor, neurologist, case workers and the handful of wonderful doctors at the hospital took the time to ask her daughters EVERYTHING over many phone calls and house visits. Once they spent a little time with my mom, they verified all our information.

Mine is cognitively fine but her physical health is starting to deteriorate a bit. She had a major operation recently and was busting to be discharged two days later. She was not one bit impressed when I sat her and her team down to explain that I would be doing zero day to day caring and transport if she left earlier than needed. I live an hour away, have two kids, and work full time.

Yessss my mom always said she was fine when the doctor asked, but luckily we both had the same doctor and she is wonderful and always listened to us.

My mom did this. We called it “showtimer’s syndrome.” She would be zoned out, not responding, or saying strange things, forgetting who people were, and I’ll kiss your foot if she didn’t pull her 💩 together while the doctor was in the room and be the sanest person on the planet. I finally had to record her for him to see, but he still acted like I was a criminal trying to make my mom look crazy. It finally got to a boiling point and she had a stroke that paralyzed her right side. We’re now going through this with my father-in-law.

I am super thankful I didn’t have this problem. I also made it clear to the doctor that sending them back home to live by themselves was incredibly unsafe. It was that easy for me to get things moving to get them in skilled nursing care full time.
