We came to Singapore Social with very high expectations, thanks to all the buzz and social media posts and while there were definitely some highlights, the experience was a bit more mixed than expected. We started with the Singapore-style Kopi and Teh Tarik. Both were enjoyable, but I felt they could have been stronger and more robust to really capture the authentic Singaporean flavors. The appetizers were tasty, although the portions felt quite small for the price. We tried the Kaya Toast, Prata with Dal, and Chicken Satay, and all three were good. The Kaya Toast was a nice introduction to the meal, while the Prata and Dal and Satay were solid choices. The Roasted Chicken Rice was a mixed bag. The chicken was a little dry, but the rice was delicious, and the garlic chili sauce was excellent-definitely one of the best parts of the dish. We also ordered the Beef Rendang Nasi Lemak, and I really appreciated that the restaurant was kind enough to give us extra sambal. Unfortunately, the beef itself was disappointing and didn’t quite live up to expectations. One dish that really stood out was the Bakmi Keriting. It had a refreshingly subtle flavor that was different from the other dishes we tried. Not overly seasoned or heavy, and definitely something I would order again. The desert was Pandan chiffon cake which was good but a little dry. Overall, Singapore Social is a beautiful restaurant with an interesting Singaporean-inspired menu, and there are some dishes worth trying. For us, though, the food didn’t consistently match the high expectations created by the restaurant’s social media presence.
