With 40 years in the business. My opinion is that these new houses are built to tight. Houses need to be able to breath.

Will this house pass the huff and puff test?

My personal (but dumb) opinion is you can't make them "too" airtight. Make them air tight as possible and then control the air on your standards.

Government doesn’t know anything, they shouldn’t be involved in home building. A house needs to breathe.

Stupid building laws😭 yeah let’s make it super airtight so we can keep more heat and cool air in but then be forced to put a ventilation system that literally just blows cold or hot air, depending on the time of the year, in🤣

They aren't "too airtight" if you are only relying on modern technology to heat the air & water. Otherwise you need it to breathe. An open-hearth fireplace will end up CO-poisoning everyone first cold night.

they are definitely too air tight these days. Drafts keep air fresh, we're starting to need units to ventilate when our ancestors just opened the window lol

Making them so airtight you need to have a make up air system because bathroom exhaust and range hood will pull vacuum in the house

They need to breathe. Wood breathes, tile breathes, concrete breaths. The house needs to breathe. Just trapping moisture in walls.

In a perfect world houses would be completely airtight with a excellent ventilation system to create constant airflow, but obviously that is expensive

I like in Japan, where the air gap the house with a semi permeable membrane on the inside. It’s basically a type of plastic, it’s just doesn’t allow water or mold to build.
