My mindset about living in with a partner is probably different from what most people expect.
I don’t see living in as a “trial before marriage” or an automatic step toward getting married. For me, it’s more practical than romantic. Two people living together can share expenses, make life a little easier, and learn what it’s actually like to build a life under the same roof.
And if the relationship doesn’t work out, that doesn’t automatically mean I lost. I’m not moving in with someone because I need to end up married to him. I’m choosing to live with someone because, at this point in my life, it makes sense and because living together can teach you things about a person that dating sometimes can’t.
I’m also young. I have a life to build, a career to establish, and a version of myself to become. So if one day we decide that marriage isn’t for us, or if he decides he doesn’t want to marry me, I’ll be okay. I don’t want my future to depend on whether someone chooses me as a wife.
For me, living in is a phase, not a promise. I can love someone deeply while still being practical about my own life.
If it works, we grow together. If it doesn’t, I still walk away with the life I built for myself.💗
