The original Greek does not literally say “exercises faith.” It says, “everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him.” “Exercises faith” is an interpretation of the Greek word for “believes,” and it can suggest additional works or actions that are not explicitly stated in the text. It would be more accurate to quote John 6:40 as: “Everyone who sees the Son and believes in Him has everlasting life.”
