@george_moulos: Should you vote for Alexis Tsipras? 🇬🇷 In 2015, 61.3% voted NO in his referendum, yet Tsipras ultimately agreed to a third bailout. Supporters point to falling unemployment, higher minimum wages, Greece exiting the bailout programme and Prespa. Critics point to the 2015 reversal, capital controls, Mati and Prespa. Now he’s back with ELAS. Would you vote for him? During Tsipras government 2015-2019 was the only period without a single economic/corruption scandal, no wonder all the media were so much against this government. Mati was a firestorm, not just a wildfire and the officials that were responsible for the operation resigned back then but mitsotakis took them back on duty when he elected in 2019

idk abt Tsipras, he's very progressive but how he handled the immigration crisis in 2015 was horrible plus he doesn't take a harsh stance against Putin

When I first arrived in Greece, the junta had only recently fallen. Everyone seemed open minded and looked to the future with genuine optimism. There was a quiet pride in the country and its character free of the sharper nationalism one so often encounters elsewhere in the Balkans. Decades later, as an outsider, I notice that the old civil war divides appear to cut once more through villages and communities. I sincerely hope that a people so rightly proud of their long history will not lose sight of the more recent past and slip back into division and familiar mistakes. Greece has long been a bright light in a region that has known too much darkness. This is only my observation, of course, perhaps I am seeing it wrong.

Tsipras has told plenty of outrageous lies over the years. I’m not talking about unfulfilled promises or political failures — I mean outright, extreme lies. The most notorious one was his claim that he could abolish the bailout memoranda “with one law and one article.” That was pure demagoguery. He was, and remains, a demagogue of the worst kind. Mitsotakis defeated him in four consecutive electoral battles in 2019 and 2023, and after all those defeats, Tsipras is now trying to sell the idea of a “new party” as if that somehow erases everything he did in the past. It’s the same old political story wrapped in new packaging. I consider him dangerous precisely because of his populism and his willingness to rewrite his own political record. The only silver lining is that his return will probably have one unintended consequence: it will unite and mobilize New Democracy voters against him.
