People who don’t say GPAs don’t matter aren’t the ones who are going to grad school.

I will add: TALK to your professors. Make an effort in class. Show up at office hours. Having a professor that recognizes your efforts can really help you out regardless. I’ve gotten two different jobs from two different professors because they see I put the effort in.

gpa does not matter that much. work experience does. networking does. at the end of the day jobs aren't rustling through your transcripts, they're looking at what you've done as professionally. even most masters/grad programs require work experience in a relevant field and a low gpa requirement

and how well you did in high school DOES NOT MATTER. high school was different. college works MASSIVELY differently, more than you will ever expect. you are an adult now and will be expected to hold yourself accountable like it in a way you did not ever have to do in high school

As a graduate I would say your GPA doesn’t matter as much as what school you went to and your network!

Good list, I’ll add the following: if you contribute to class discussions (not about being right but at least trying) your professor will return the favor when you need that letter of rec, advice, introduction whatever.

i promise your gpa doesn’t matter. gain internship experience. network network network matters more than any gpa. become personable and professional and just pass focus your time on gaining skill / experience/ reputation

I would say who knows you in terms of faculty and staff matters. if they think good of you cuz you are authentic its good in the long run. I had a 2.8 GPA, got into grad school cuz my professor in undergrad made the program. I graduated with honors (3.7) with my masters and now im a therapist. gpa matters but Bs get degrees, dont stress a 4.0

HEY FRIENDS REMEMBER - life does not stop just because you’re going to college. You CAN get into a grad school with a less then ideal GPA there are several of other factors that determine your eligibility. I know it sucks not having perfect grades however. Masters programs exist to help outweigh a bad undergrad transcript. Things come up, you may need to put school on hold, that’s okay. You can get bad grades, that’s okay. You can be so smart and still do all of the things you want EVEN IF YOU DIDNT GET A PERFECT GPA. It takes one yes

And for everyone, freshman year is the hardest for gpa! Yes the coursework doesn’t get easier but yourself get easier. You start to put things together and start to prioritize. In high school, i literally was in the hospital for freshman and sophomore year and still graduated with a 4.0 while skipping those years. Freshman year I got a 2.9 in college. Now I have a 3.7. College is way harder, you can make it up

Heavy on the last one. A story that incorporates all of this- I was in what was meant to be my final semester of school and I had a job waiting in Japan that was contingent on getting my degree by the spring of the following year. One of the classes I needed was full and I messaged the professor. She said no, the class was full. I emailed the dean politely saying that if I didn’t get this class I’d miss the opportunity of a lifetime. My dean responded enthusiastically saying “You’ve been on the deans list four times and you have an outstanding GPA. The whole point of this is to succeed and ai would be honored to be a part of that. I have contacted the registrar’s office and your professor. You WILL be in that class. Congratulations. I can’t wait to see you at graduation. Good luck.” I’ll never forget that. Closed mouths don’t get fed.

As someone about to graduate, you should care ab your GPA, but it’s also not the ticket. Extracurricular activities are.

I agree with every single one except for GPA. It only matters if you’re trying to go into a certain field
