@ghe.e.1: THE SKY'S SECRET SPECTACLE: THE RARE PHENOMENON OF "RED SPRITES" While most people only observe lightning during a storm, above the clouds a spectacle unfolds that few are privileged to witness. The stunning images capture a phenomenon known as Red Sprites — gigantic electrical discharges that occur high in the atmosphere, tens of kilometers above thunderstorms. Resembling jellyfish, luminous trees, or columns of red light, these flashes can span dozens of kilometers in length and disappear in less than a tenth of a second. For many years, reports of these lights were considered legends by pilots. It wasn't until the late 1980s that the phenomenon was recorded on video and officially recognized by the scientific community. Red Sprites are not an explosion nor a sign of the end of the world. They are part of the complex electrical dynamics of Earth's atmosphere and continue to be studied by researchers around the planet. Each recording is valuable to science and reveals that our sky still holds phenomena capable of surprising even experts. #Science
