@sashablossom: Emotional unavailability can be surprisingly difficult to recognise in the early stages of a connection, partly because it can look like the opposite of what you may expect. See, attention isn’t necessarily intimacy. Disclosure isn’t necessarily vulnerability. Chemistry isn’t necessarily compatibility. And intensity isn’t necessarily emotional capacity. Someone can genuinely want closeness with you while still having protective patterns that make it difficult for them to sustain it. I always say the path to knowing if someone can truly emotionally meet you comes from a combination of time, honesty with yourself & clear boundaries. Bc we often learn far more about someone’s capacity for intimacy when connection becomes uncomfortable than when everything is going well. What happens when you express a need? When you set a boundary? When there’s a misunderstanding? When you disappoint one anotherWhen the novelty begins to fade? When closeness requires compromise, accountability or repair? Can this person remain curious about your experience when it differs from theirs? Can they communicate through discomfort rather than disappearing from it? Can they allow themselves to need & be needed? Can they make space for you as a real, complex person rather than an idealised one? None of the signs in this reel, in isolation, automatically mean someone is emotionally unavailable. People have difficult weeks/get scared/need space. People communicate differently. Plus emotional availability itself exists on a spectrum. We’re looking for patterns, not so much collecting instant evidence. And regardless, maybe the goal isn’t really to become better at analysing every person you meet for potential red flags… maybe it’s to remain connected to yourself while you’re getting to know them. To let time reveal whether their words & actions align. To notice how the connection feels once the initial intensity settles. To pay attention to whether there is room for your needs, boundaries & full humanity too. Yes, someone can want you very badly & still not have the capacity to meet you deeply. So remain with yourself. That’s how you’ll know. #emotionallyunavailaible #avoidantattachment
