I tutor ESL to Japanese children. I tell them that “b | d” is our very own “さ| ち” problem to tackle. Some very cute mistakes I’ve had to correct like “brink water” 🥹🥲 or “bon’t want to” awwwww

When I first started learning japanese in college courses none of my teachers mentioned or corrected me on these but since coming to japan to study I just naturally picked up on it watching my teachers write on the board. It's little nuances like this that need to be in textbooks imo

We do that a little bit, too. Look at “a”. Nobody writes it like that by hand. Same with “g”, and “4” depending on the font. We also got q,p,b, and d to tell apart. I’ll bet that’s super fun to learn
