I was always confused by and never liked saying that people were “worth” however much money they had.

I hate the term “houseless” or “unhoused” with a passion too. Also - this seems to be specific to TikTok (for now), but the term “unalived” makes me want to rip my hair out.

If I hear the phrase “let that sink in” one more time over the next fifty years it will be too many.

When people “soften” the language, they do it to make themselves feel better about the harm they’re doing. Words matter.

Unhoused bugs me so much because homeless directly says you have no place to call home and that's more damning than something like unhoused. Other stuff like unalive or any euphemisms for r*pe or SA that diminishes the impact of the language is so Orwellian because it's literally newspeak. You can't convey the severity of these sensitive topics because of how light these words are and it wraps back around to discussion being taboo just because of ad revenue and community guidelines

everyone labelling every tiny little quirk in a human as being 'on the spectrum'. no. just no 🙄 all this does is diminish truly autistic and ADHD sufferers

It’s funny how right sizing is always “we were spending too much so we right sized” and never “we weren’t paying the right amount so we’re right sizing”

corporate speak is definitely some of the most frustrating shit I've ever had to engage with. also, when people try to put a bunch of turd polish on the subject of death. "passed away" and "gone" just don't have the impact.

A Reduction In Force is obviously intentionally, then made worse by calling it a "RIF". It sounds passive, like a riff/rip in space opened up and now Steve is gone along with his team. It sounds blameless

When they tried to replace layoff with “restructure” I knew then that layoff were now part of the business model. No matter how successful the yearly earnings, there would be layoffs.

Layoffs should require a 6 month salary minimum for each year of employment, and the company should be required to pay 100% of their medical for 2 years or until they get another job. It would stop the workforce turnover for profit.

when they started calling it "human resources" it was over for us. we turned into inventory, like chairs and coffeemakers. easily replaced, tossed if no longer needed.

The one I absolutely hate the worst? “Promoted to guest” as a cutesy way to say “fired”. I legitimately couldn’t believe they were serious the first time I heard someone at my last employer say that.

Not so much a buzzword, but naming every scandal "xxxx-gate" thoroughly pisses me off. Watergate was simply the name of the hotel in the Nixon scandal, not some clever name to describe it.
