Wrong. Gary Weaver explicitly requested information that was publicly available, for emails, budget information, and vehicle information having to do with the K-9 unit in the Sheriff's office. It is all in the screenshot of the email that Dance posted with her egregious statement.

There is some history here, first Gary ran for sheriff last term and lost, there is a new term coming up. he's using that to his advantage here i suspect. secondly, Paula did wait to long to come out with the details on the k9 death. if im not mistaken, she was out of town during it but when she got back she investigated it within her agency and waited over a month to tell anyone about it. that has got her in a bind right now. people are upset because if you or I leave your dog in the car to run in a store we get arrested. k9s are considered officers and one is dead. no charges here.

County Manager has spoken and said there is no written protocol but the method he took would be the way to do it. When I looked up the statues it said typically counties go that route using NC Public Records Statutes since FOIA isn’t applicable.

Maybe he is trying to figure out why the sheriff's let one of their officers die in a hot car? 1 it a dog and they deserve better than most people IMHO 2 it is a dead sheriff. Why are they not checking into this. It has been too hot for me to take my dog to work in a building with no AC. So he stays home. Justice for Chilli

Looks like he calls bs on the whole “the dog dying was an accident so we can’t charge him” situation. You can’t do illegal things to get justice but it should be looked into further. It definitely seems like Paula is doing everything in her power to cover up any wrong doing from the K-9 handler. If he was a civilian he’d be charged already.

It doesn’t sound illegal to me when looking up the statues. NC Public records are not under FOIA. He requested thru protocol by going thru the Clerk of Commissioners. And I really want to know where is the heading of this email. Who was it addressed to? I feel like that was purposefully left out of the image.
