You didn’t say anything wrong.. when I think of AKA’s I think of the Whitley Gilbert types.. I would never pledge AKA because I don’t fit the aesthetic not just physically but just the overall attitude of an AKA.. pledging Delta was more my vibe…

AKA is a brand and image. Let’s be real. Think of DCC( Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders) It’s a brand and image! I’ll leave it there. 💕💚

💯 Historically, the Divine 9 used to have pride in their appearance.

That's what's wrong with the world today. Always lowering the standards instead of making people rise to them. We see this everywhere! You ain't wrong!

I agree. This is why the Victoria secret shows don’t hit the same. Modeling doesn’t hit the same.

I’ve realized, a lot of us want to live a life where there are NO standards. Absolutely none. No expectation of being able to control your impulses as an adult, no expectation to parent, no expectation to walk away, no expectation to even put leggings and a tshirt on, throw your hair in a ponytail or put a hat on, before walking out the door. An expectation or standard is “respectability politics”. But having no standards and no expectations is “culture”. We’ve lost the plot.

My grandmother and my great aunt are proud AKA’s. They are dark skinned and always have been. And they pledged way back when. But one thing they’ve always been is neat and put together.

I think people are trying to reduce your message to skin color or even weight. I know some plus size AKAs and some GORGEOUS chocolate ones. I think the shock to many of us was the lack of grooming within their appearance which would have been an issue with ANY sorority, back in the days. 🗣️ESPECIALLY AKAs.

Growing up, Even the heavy set akas were well put together! They are known to be classy and bougie. They were dark skin and light skin. You had to be the best of the best as well.

Aka was something to aspire to when I was in hs. We wanted the best grades, appearance and reputations to be eligible.

Exactly. The Divine 9 were supposed to be aspirational. AKA and Deltas, in particular, were POLISHED young women. Our community has such lowered standards to a sad degree.

100% correct. Standards must be kept high. Otherwise it lowers the group.
