My grandfather's grandfather used to work there as the sheriff! My grandfather has told me SO many stories that his grandfather told him. That story where they tell you 2 prisoners escaped through the food hole the size of a hat and beat the sheriff over the head with a bar? That was my great great grandfather!

there's also a court house where they send troubled teens right next to it I remember I went there twice and they gave me a lot of community service it was called teen court hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about

My great-great-grandfather was sheriff peeler of Clay County, he was the first sheriff or officer to be shot in the Line of Duty. He died from that shot.

Another interesting thing. They cannot repaint because of the paint being led, I think or something like that. It's cool it's left like it originally was gives it character for sure

There’s also a museum right across it you can go into, see clay county history. Also an old train carriage right beside it you can look into and sometimes tour if one of the members are there. The clay county historical society works really hard to maintain everything and keeping it running (my neighbor is one of them 💗) not to mention the ghost stories of the old jail are always my favorite to hear!

We walked around that jail on a random day, it was wonderful! I love that it’s free! Next stop we want to check out is the courthouse behind it!
