To me, peace is being okay with people being wrong about you. Not everyone will understand you, agree with you, or believe the truth. But facts matter, especially when misinformation inspires evil actions. Here are facts: They cannot be proven otherwise. We have been reviewed and inspected. The Asher House has undergone an Oregon Department of Justice review and multiple unannounced Oregon Department of Agriculture inspections. We were found compliant with no concerns regarding the care and well-being of the animals in our sanctuary or the use of nonprofit funds. We do not profit from taking in animals. We do not charge intake fees. Every animal is a financial commitment, not financial gain. •Every animal entrusted to us is accounted for. Our rescue partners and owner surrenders receive updates and adoption information. The exception is Sherman, who escaped from a foster home and remains missing. We continue to hope he comes home. We are committed to transparency. The Asher House is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3), has earned Candid’s Platinum Seal of Transparency and publicly posted IRS Form 990 filings since 2021. I do not make money from the nonprofit. I do not receive a salary from the nonprofit. My personal businesses are separate. I purchased the Salem property with my own income. My mortgage is approximately $25,000 a month; the nonprofit pays approximately $9,000 a month to lease space under an arrangement overseen by independent leadership. Claims that I receive $1 million a year in rent are false. We don’t take highly adoptable dogs just to keep them. Shelters often contact us because an animal may be euthanized if we cannot take them. What appears highly adoptable doesn’t always tell the full story. Medical, behavioral, and individual needs determine the best outcome. You don’t have to agree with every decision we make. We aren’t perfect, and we are willing to learn. Criticism should be based on facts, not misinformation because the animals are affected. Our mission is about giving animals the best life we possibly can. If the concern is their welfare, wouldn’t you agree that energy is best spent actually helping them?
