You say no again, give a reason, still nothing changes. It’s not until you mention a man that they finally step back and even then, most of the times they’re gonna call you out your name and sometimes women don’t even get out of these situations. I want to be clear: this isn’t about men being the enemy. It’s about fear that’s been built up from real harm, over and over, until our first instinct becomes protection instead of trust. We look to men for that protection. We want that trust. But I shouldn’t have to borrow a man’s name to be respected when I say no as myself. Kidnapping: about 25,000–30,000 women a year in the U.S. Physical assault by an intimate partner: 1.5–4.8 million women a year. That’s why so many of us stay on guard the moment we’re approached, especially when we’re vulnerable, even something as small as wearing headphones. So I’ll ask honestly, because I want to understand it from your side too: if you were in my position, how would you have handled it?
