@michaeltothemax: Three Things You Need to STOP Doing in the First 30 Days After a Breakup There are three things I really want to encourage you to stop doing during the first 30 days after a breakup. Not because you’re supposed to be completely healed in 30 days. You probably won’t be. These are things that can keep you emotionally attached to somebody long after the relationship has ended. Number one: Stop checking their social media. I know why you’re doing it. You’re not just curious. You’re looking for information that’s going to make you feel better. Are they hurting? Do they miss me? Are they seeing somebody else? Why did they post that song? Who is that person standing next to them? Here’s the problem: you almost never feel better afterward. You either see something you don’t like and your anxiety goes through the roof, or you see nothing and start wondering what they’re doing that you can’t see. Either way, you lose. Number two: Stop looking for hidden meaning in everything. “They watched my story.” “They haven’t deleted our pictures.” “They liked my sister’s post.” “They posted something about loyalty.” Listen to me. When you’re hurting, your mind can turn into a full-time detective agency. You start collecting little pieces of information and trying to build a story out of them. The problem is, you don’t actually know what most of those things mean. A story view is not a relationship. A sad song is not reconciliation. Leaving your pictures up is not a commitment. Stop trying to build certainty out of breadcrumbs. Number three—and this one is huge: Stop using contact with your ex to regulate your anxiety. You feel anxious, so you text them. You miss them, so you call. You’re having a terrible night, so you reach out just to see if they’ll respond. Then they answer…and for a few minutes, you feel better. That little wave of relief is exactly what makes this so difficult. Because now your brain starts learning, “When I hurt, I need access to this person to feel okay again.” That is precisely the pattern you need to start breaking. The first 30 days aren’t about proving you don’t care. They’re about learning that you can care deeply about somebody, miss them terribly, have moments when every part of you wants to reach for them… and still learn how to steady yourself without them. That’s the shift. You stop asking, “How do I get them to make this feeling go away?” And you start asking, “How do I become somebody who knows how to handle this feeling myself?” That’s when you begin moving from anxious to anchored. #healing #breakup #breakuprecovery #recovery

I'm blocked on everything except for WhatsApp. She's a dismissive avoidant and I'm an overthinker. We were 12 years together. I got a full discard from one amazing night to the following morning. I've had to move out but I didn't beg...I asked her if she was sure..She told me she no longer respected me and she's no longer in love with me. I left that day and we've been 31 days no contact so far. I've been rebuilding myself, hitting the gym hard, improving work possibilities She's always in my thoughts and it hurts like hell, but by the grace of God I'll get through it.

Your advice is so powerful. Known this man for 50 years and 7 years of dating. Walking away is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. One day at a time!

My divorce is giving me insomnia. Not officially divorced. She’s still living with me. Just she officially said we are roommates not lovers. The doctor gave me a week off of work and sleeping pills and counselling. It hurts so much

Thank you for this message. This is exactly what I’ve been battling with since my breakup, and I’m not even a month out yet. I’ve made some progress. I stopped checking her Snapchat, even deleted the habit of using a second account to stalk her, and I’ve gotten better at stopping myself from calling or reaching out when I’m anxious. But I still catch myself checking her TikTok, looking at thumbnails without opening the posts, and trying to find hidden meaning in everything she posts. Things I probably wouldn’t have thought twice about if we were still together and things was good, suddenly feel like clues now. What makes it harder is that the breakup happened while I was already struggling financially, emotionally and physically. I don’t really have a social circle, so for a long time she was basically my main source of social connection. I think that affected the relationship too, because I became overly dependent on her presence and communication while she seemed to be gradually checking out. I also realize now how much I neglected myself trying to keep the relationship alive. I overextended myself financially and physically, even when I should have been using that money to build my own life. I had opportunities a few months ago to establish myself properly, and I kept pouring more into the relationship. Now I’m rebuilding from a much worse position, and honestly, that part hurts almost as much as losing her. I still miss her. I still love her. And seeing her happy with her friends while I’m struggling is painful, even though I know social media only shows a small part of someone’s life. But I’m slowly learning the lesson: I cannot keep using access to someone else to regulate my own emotions. I have to learn how to steady myself. I don’t know exactly where I am right now. I feel lost and stuck in a pit, but I’m still trying. Hopefully, I come out of this stronger, rebuild my confidence, get my finances back together, take care of my body again, and become someone I’m proud of. Maybe this heartbreak is finally forcing me to choose myself.
