Omg, this 1 time, our Warlock was haggling with a slave trader (this was an evil campaign) and they were REALLY low balling the price. The DM really didnt want them to be sold at that price, so he made them roll with disadvantage and the Warlock got a nat 20 on both! our party still references this a year later

Polymorphed a very serious villain of our campaign into a flea, we put him in a jar and took turns shaking the jar to punish him. Dm said she’s only allowing us that once and not to ever try something like that again. 🤣

I guess you could call him a DM but he was an actual vendor at a con selling dice, he was also dressed like a vampire (relevant). There was a gimmick at this stall where you pay $15 for a token and you can use that token to roll a D20 for a random dice set. 1 you get a pin, 2-19 you get the set associated with that number and 20 you choose your own. was waiting in line and this person rolls a Nat 1 and the vendor goes "aaah there must be a luck vampire around" to which I laugh cause I've actually been called that before. My friend and I get to the front and I chuckled and said "funny you mentioned the luck vampire cause I've been called that before" and he goes "hmmmm shall we test that" he pits my friend and I against eachother- she rolls a 6 and I roll -what looks like a Nat 1- which I'm laughing going "well that's what I get for bragging haha 😅" he went a little quiet which was odd, my friend picks her set and then he turns to me and goes.... so I know you think you rolled a Nat 1... but look closer at the dice. it was a fkn dragon that looked like a 1.... I rolled a 20 he went quiet cause he was being a good sport and I think trying to let me keep believing I rolled a 1 for a little longer 🤣 he then said "I bow to the real vampire here" it was a fantastic experience I'll never forget

My DM actually tagebaited me yesterday. I was fighting my reanimated brother (who I killed but that's for amother story) got a nat 20, did 22 damage, only for him to tell me my brother casted major illusion and I hit fucking nothing.

Last night we are on a boss fight of a sec of cultists they have been fighting for over a year (irl) they wanted to have him join their adoptive family. Mind you, this is a serial killer. Someone that’s happily killed anyone he wanted. Well - Nat 20 persuasion roll later he is their friend and inside mole. Jokes on them - he’s going to be discovered and skinned alive next session.

I told myself as the DM I’d honor the Nat 20 rule at all costs. They escaped my first dungeon that was supposed to bring them directly to the next location that continues the entire story line. I had to pause and write city lore I wasn’t ready for yet…
