Let’s talk about something apparently inconvenient for some people: 9/11. How in the hell does anyone look at a person who publicly says 9/11 was deserved and think, “Yep, that’s the person I want representing me in government”? Seriously. Explain that one. 9/11 wasn’t some abstract political event. People died. Innocent people died. Parents never came home. Children lost their mothers and fathers. Families got phone calls that changed their lives forever. First responders ran toward the destruction while others were running away. And somehow, we’ve reached a point where some people will twist themselves into a pretzel defending someone who says those deaths were deserved as long as that person has the “right” political beliefs. That’s not political disagreement. That’s a moral failure. And as for “Dr.” El sayed I use that title very loosely. A title, a degree, a political platform, or a microphone doesn’t magically make disgusting beliefs respectable. You can hate American politicians. You can criticize American foreign policy. You can disagree with our government until the cows come home. But when you start saying innocent Americans deserved to die on 9/11, you’ve crossed a line that should transcend politics. So I genuinely want to know: What exactly does someone have to say or believe before you stop defending them? Because if “9/11 was deserved” isn’t the line, where the hell is it?
