@BigMao: Ultron’s method could arguably be considered more effective than Thanos’s because it attempts to eliminate what he perceives as the underlying cause of the problem rather than merely reducing its symptoms. Thanos sought to reduce the population by half, but this would only provide humanity with temporary relief. The same economic, technological, and demographic mechanisms that produced the original crisis would remain intact, meaning that population growth, resource consumption, environmental degradation, and conflict could eventually return. Ultron, by contrast, identified humanity itself as the source of these recurring problems and sought to remove humanity entirely. From the internal logic of his objective, this would produce a far more permanent result: if humanity no longer existed, neither would the systems, behaviours, conflicts, or patterns of resource consumption that he regarded as the causes of civilisation’s destruction. Therefore, while Thanos’s approach could be viewed as a temporary reset, Ultron’s approach represents an attempt at a permanent resolution. Thanos reduces the scale of the problem without eliminating its cause; Ultron attempts to eliminate the cause itself. If the objective is judged purely by the permanence of the outcome rather than by its morality, Ultron’s method would arguably produce a more definitive result.
