“Fearfully and wonderfully made” is the genuine wonder appropriate to recognizing that a person’s actual formation, both natural and spiritual, proceeds entirely from the Lord’s own infinite wisdom and power, nothing about a person’s genuine existence being self-derived or accidental. “Fearfully” is the reverence proper to recognizing something this far beyond a person’s own capacity to have produced or fully comprehend, while “wonderfully” refers to the genuine delight appropriate to perceiving the Lord’s actual skill and care in that formation. “Marvellous are thy works” represents the broader truth that everything genuinely good and true in creation, and specifically in a person’s own life, reflects the Lord’s own infinite wisdom actively at work, not merely at the point of physical formation but continuously, in the ongoing process by which a person’s spiritual life is also formed through regeneration. “That my soul knoweth right well” is genuine, experiential perception rather than mere intellectual assertion, an actual, felt recognition arising from the soul itself, the deepest part of a person’s spiritual life, confirming what’s being declared rather than the declaration remaining abstract doctrine held only in the memory. Practically, this means actively cultivating genuine reverence and wonder toward your own existence, both natural and spiritual, as something the Lord’s own wisdom actually formed and continues forming through ongoing regeneration, resisting the pull toward self-criticism or comparison that would treat your own formation as accidental or insufficient rather than as something genuinely marvelous, known not merely in the mind but, as David says, right well in the soul itself.
