it’s autoimmune thyroid disease. Overtime you won’t be producing as much t4 as you need so your pcp or endocrinologist will put you on levoythyroxine/supplementation. Also Hashimoto is the guy who discovered it hence “Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis”

I have Hashimotos! There’s many different levels of it, for me it’s very debilitating but for others it’s not. Like it can be a big deal for some people. Go to the endocrinologist (they specialize in this) and get your thyroid levels checked regularly. If your levels get out of range they can give you thyroid meds that help. You don’t want it flaring up and getting worse to a point where you become symptomatic and it impacts your functioning. So it’s great that you got diagnosed now bc the earlier you do the better control you will have of it!! Just stay on top of your health girl

U so unserious rn 😂 its a commonly diagnosed disease, many have it on varying levels, its possible to live with it & never notice. Its also often misdiagnosed. Get an autoimmune blood panel done & see a rheumatologist (not PCP) preferably at a bigger research hospital

Clarifying! We check thyroid levels (test is called TSH) when ppl have fatigue, constipation, weight gain, etc - symptoms of hypothyroidism (low thyroid). We often treat if TSH is >10 with levothyroxine (basically the hormone the thyroid produces) or consider lower threshold to treat if symptomatic. Hashimoto’s is the most common cause of hypothyroidism, and we confirm it by measuring TPO antibodies. Some people might have positive TPO antibodies (risk for Hashimoto’s) with normal thyroid levels (normal TSH), where what we would do is to check thyroid (TSH) levels every year and make sure these are normal - if they remain normal, one might not need medications. Hope it helps!

You’re pretty young to be getting Hashimoto’s (aka Quasimodo’s) 😅 Usually people get it between 30 and 60. As long as you don’t get hyper/hypothyroid symptoms you should be fine and not need to be on levothyroxine but deffo get yourself checked for other autoimmune conditions stuff like coeliac’s. They can come in a group

Not a huge deal, they will put you on meds to manage your thyroid levels.
