@iamstill.standing: Dunbar Memorial Hospital 🏥 | Detroit, MI Opened in 1917, Dunbar became Detroit’s first hospital established to serve the Black community during an era of segregation in healthcare. It also provided opportunities for Black doctors and nurses—including Dr. Ossian Sweet, who practiced medicine here. A powerful piece of Black Detroit history still standing today. 🖤 https://gofund.me/d80c57289 #DetroitHistory #BlackDetroit #BlackHistory #DunbarHospital #Detroit
It's pretty disappointing that Dunbar Hospital is sitting boarded up, especially in this neighborhood. Hopefully that'll change soon.

I wish I had the funds to purchase it and make it a woman's clinic

Charles Diggs played a prominent role in supporting Emmett Till’s mother and exposing Jim Crow laws nationally during the Mississippi trial of Till’s murderers.

The Ossian Sweet house ....on the corner of Garland and Charlevoix... fell into disrepair but a group of people pulled together and restored it completely...beautifully I might add❤️

Someone stole Dunbar Hospitals’ historic marker that the City installed. Next door 544 Frederick was home to one of the first Black American music schools in MI. It’s historic marker was also stolen.

I was born and raised in the city of Detroit and I never knew anything about this hospital. This is why I feel like they should be teaching our children in school about the state they live in some of the history in the state instead of all of this other whitewashed history that they taught us in school.

I truly loved the Digg’s family. My oldest brother ( Carl Douglas) was killed in 1952 here in Detroit, my mother was unable to bury hem and the Digg’s family buried him for free. May God continue to bless the family.🥰❤️

Sad we have no museums for how much history we have here. Sure there’s DHS but we have some old standing homes and buildings and most aren’t used
