My stepdad lived in Brooklyn, walked out at noon, got on the subway and disappeared in NYC for hours. My mother called the police but they weren’t willing to do much even though he had dementia. At one in the morning, a taxi driver saw him standing alone and crying on a street corner in Harlem. He looked in his wallet for his address. My mother was so relieved. The taxi driver didn’t even accept payment of the fare. That man was an angel among us.

I always remember finding an elderly lady in her nightgown once. I brought her in gave her my dressing gown made her a cuppa tea and managed to get some names out of her. She was returned safely home.
