Along with Atkinson, don’t sleep on McCullough. Love him as an author, 1776 is a little more narrow in scope than Atkinson but does a great job following the continental army through their early struggles

Bailyn is one of those writers that you have to read the first page three times to prepare yourself for the rest of the book. First book I read in Grad school. Definitely recommended reading but it is a level up
