I don’t think OP can call him a great father because he isn’t her(OP’s) dad! Only his TWO children can be the judge of that. Even though he decided not to be in HIS daughter’s life it doesn’t change the daughter’s experience. To her he is an absent father, and therefore not a good one. It’s not about the parents, it’s about the child’s experience! A good father is willing to sacrifice and be in a child’s life( which he wasn’t for her) therefore he is not a good father. It doesn’t necessarily make him a bad man, but his choices do still affect the child that he helped produce.

it sounds like your husband isn’t there for one of his children, which is fine because that was the agreement, but then you can’t be surprised when people say that he’s not a good father to that child because he isn’t there.

I mean if he made it clear to the other woman he didn't want to and theres no further issues with this part of his life then I dont think hes the problem.

I feel like if the man does not want to be a part of the child’s life or pregnancy and takes the proper steps to actually sign away his rights you can’t call this guy a deadbeat. he never wanted to be a dad in the first place 🤔

I mean he didn’t want the baby and she did. He made his stance clear and still pays child support like he said he would. No one should have a child when they aren’t ready.

Everybody's saying he's a terrible father to his first kid..You can't be a terrible father when you made it very clear, you never want it to be a father in the 1st place, his ex chose to keep the baby even knowing that information like yes it sucks for the kid 100% but his mom make the choice that she did.

I’m a feminist, pro choice, happily single mom…all of the “things.” I fail to understand what’s the difference in acknowledging you’re not ready to be a parent/giving up rights and putting a child up for adoption. Other than the other parent wanting to keep it. That was her choice and she’s allowed to make it but you can’t force someone into being a parent. Just like you wouldn’t force a woman to not get an abortion if she wanted one. I wouldn’t call someone who chooses adoption a deadbeat parent. I just feel like a lot of hypocrisy is happening here. I wish my son’s father would have

Tbh NTA. He’s a good dad to his kid and husband to his wife. He said he didn’t want to be a dad to the first kid but still pays child support. Mom kept the kid. Not his fault

She decided to keep the kid KNOWING he wasn’t gonna be involved. She could have gotten an abortion or give it up to adoption. He made it clear from the very start and didn’t just back out once the the kid was already born. So nta

Everyone calling him a horrible human being is mad weird to me. He supported her and took care of her throughout the pregnancy, even after she chose to continue it despite knowing he didn’t want the child, and he still supports them financially. You can disagree with his decision to remain uninvolved, but calling him a horrible person ignores everything he has actually done to support them.

Ngl imma say NTA. He made it clear he does not want that child and yet she still decided to have it so she willingly chose to be a single mother and he seems to pay child support, he just doesn’t see that child which is not that big of a problem bc it’s worse to have a father that doesn’t want you be present than this.

To praise him as a teamplayer when he completely abandoned the other woman is a bit too far. Jane is correct in giving her contra for that

He’s paying child support, he was clear from the beginning he wasn’t ready to be a parent at the time and didn’t want to have a kid yet, and when she made a different choice he made it clear that he would do what he could to support her but didn’t want to be a father before he was ready

i'm sorry I don't understand how he is wrong? he made clear from the start he didn't want the child, and then made all the right legal decisions, he pays for child support and that's enough, it would be a different thing if he just went away without saying anything or taking care of it in any way 🤷
he is a great father because he never was a father to the other kid, as simple as that

I’m pro choice, the guy isn’t wrong, I would never judge a woman for doing the same. He’s a good father for the kid he did want.

If a woman wants an abortion she should be able too get one Likewise If the dad doesn’t want the baby and makes that clear he has a right too tell her that from the beginning and leave, the ops man is already doing more than enough by giving child support instead of signing over his rights the mother knew and chose too have that child it is now her responsibility the only time this becomes the ops man’s fault is if he told her he wanted too be a dad and tricked her into keeping it which didn’t happen here

If someone does not want a child they cannot be forced to have that child. That’s how you get neglectful, avoidant parents. He grew, found he was ready to be a family man and started said family with the woman he loves. There is nothing wrong with that.

I get the guy didn’t want to be a dad his choice love that for him but imagine how the child will feel when they grow up knowing their dad didn’t want them but had another child he happily raised!

Listen I’m pro choice. If you support a women’s choice to choose, you have to support a man’s choice to choose too.
