In April 2023, a tragic collision in Dumfries, Virginia took the lives of 33-year-old Dorothy Fontaine and her 5-year-old daughter, Empress. Authorities report that Fontaine was riding in a Chrysler 300 driven by her boyfriend, Mustafa Aljazairi, when the car veered into oncoming traffic along Dumfries Road and crashed head-on into a Chevrolet Suburban. Investigators believe the incident happened during a heated dispute inside the vehicle, alleging that Aljazairi deliberately entered the opposite lane. Fontaine succumbed to her injuries that same day, while her daughter passed away in the hospital the following day. The other driver survived but sustained serious injuries. According to prosecutors, dashcam footage presented in court shows the Chrysler drifting into the opposing lane moments before impact, with signs that Fontaine was aware of the imminent danger. Officials also noted that neither adult was wearing a seatbelt, and the child was not properly secured. The impact forced the vehicle off the road and onto a nearby sidewalk. Both drivers were hospitalized with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Aljazairi was initially charged with two counts of manslaughter and malicious wounding. Prosecutors later escalated the case, adding charges including second-degree murder, arguing the vehicle was used intentionally as a weapon.
